Cy Young Award is annually awarded to an outstanding leagues pitcher. It is the most coveted award that was first introduced in 1956 by Commissioner Ford Frick to honor the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. During the first eleven (11) years (1956 - 1966), only one winner from each league was selected, but in 1967 the rules were changed and one pitcher in each league became the recipient of the award. The team of 28 members of the Baseball Writers Association of America selects the winner. Each member casts an unbiased vote for first, second, and third place among the pitchers of each league. The pitcher with the highest score in each league receives the award. If two pitchers receive the same number of votes the award is shared.
